Sunquest Value of the Month – Innovation

We constantly stretch ourselves to efficiently achieve the best results. Our curiosity leads us to solve problems most people cannot.

Innovation is the key to success for all organizations, from startups to large businesses. Businesses that do not innovate do not survive and are left in the dust behind companies exceling at innovation. Software companies, much like ours, must continue to be thought leaders in our industry and create innovative solutions for ourselves and our clients. Our clients and our success depend on it!

When Sunquest was first founded, the idea of a laboratory information system was certainly considered innovative and brought the power of technology to the laboratory. Over the last 30+ years, Sunquest has continued to be innovative in order to create new solutions for old problems. As I look around the organization, across all of our departments, I see innovation in many ways from new products like Sunquest VUE to solutions helping our solution adoption teams and clients install products faster through self-installation utilities for many of our products today.

When the business magnate John D. Rockefeller started Standard Oil in 1870, he innovated in ways that no other business had ever done before. Rockefeller and Standard Oil were faced with a huge problem as they were being forced by the railroad industry to pay premium prices for transporting their oil. Rockefeller embarked on creating one of the very first pipelines in North America to transport his oil and circumvent this roadblock. His audacious innovation led him to become the wealthiest man of his times, worth over $330 billion dollars in today’s money. Just to put this in perspective, Bill Gates is worth roughly $80 billion today…!

As we continue to come into work every day, never forget what Thomas Edison said, “There is no substitute for hard work.” We are all faced with problems in our day-to-day work and personal lives.  I like to see these as opportunities to improve. If we all look at things a little differently, think about the great things we can innovate and create together!
